Company Background
Plumbs was founded in the 1950's by Thomas and Bernice Plumb, initially as a market business. In the 1960’s, their son, Geoff Plumb, developed the business into a mail order company specialising in a niche market of stretch furniture covers.
Mr Geoff Plumb still plays an integral part of the Company as Chairman of the Board.
Today
Plumbs today is a professional customer focused organisation producing over 1,000 made-to-measure orders every week. A huge technology investment includes in house photographic studio, state of the art Lectra manufacturing systems and quality DVDs.
Plumbs also make a positive effort to develop staff and provide continuous training.
Future
Plumbs continue to grow their in home made to measure service, particularly with curtains, traditional covers and reupholstery.
New websites are exploring the potential for export. Plumbs will continue to provide our customers with a quality service and product.
- We produce over 1,500 cover orders every week.
- We are profitable, financially stable and all business growth is internally funded.
- We are based in Preston, Lancashire and are still family owned after 50 years.
- We offer an extensive range of cover products backed by an impressive range of branded (Sanderson, Crowson, Villa Nova) and own branded fabrics, many of which are exclusive to us.
- We combine a mix of traditional tailoring skills and computer aided technology to ensure our covers fit as perfectly as possible.
- We employ over 300 people in Preston, many of them with unique skills - Sewers, Upholsterers, CAD Designers, Pattern Drawers, Hand Cutters, as well as deploying computerised laser cutting machines.
- We provide a specialised training program to equip all our Home Consultants with the technical skills they require both when they join us and ongoing throughout their careers.
- Over 140 Home Consultants currently provide a unique, mobile, made to measure service, free across the UK.
- Over 200 Technical Designers working in partnership with us, provide a reupholstery and loose cover making service throughout the UK
- To satisfy increasing demand for our products we need to grow both our Home Consultant and Technical Designer base, so we are always interested to hear from people who have the skills, experience and desire to work in partnership with our successful, family owned, British Company.
