I am pleased to be working for Plumbs as I believe them to be a good secure employer who care for their employees. Although the work is exacting and needs high standards, the rewards are excellent if you are prepared to exert a proper effort.

Having longed to be self employed for many years, the opportunity to become a Plumbs Home Consultant was a dream come true. I probably work harder now than ever before, but I know that the extra effort I make results in happy customers and repeat orders. I find that the Plumbs customer base really value the fact that Plumbs have been around for so long and wholeheartedly trust us to produce quality products. As a result of this, my job is easy, there’s no heavy sell at all, it’s very much a case of explaining the options and showing fabrics that suit the customers requirements. Even though I work independently and plan my own day, the support I get from Plumbs Head Office is second to none. The one thing I’d say is that you need to be very organised, you also need to be a people person and enjoy delivering what you promise. If you’re a pushy sales person, don’t bother, go and get a double glazing job!

I have nothing but praise for Plumbs directors and staff in the professional and caring way that the company operates. Life as a Plumbs consultant is varied and hugely rewarding. I feel we offer a genuinely great service to our customers in their homes by saving them many hours of inconvenience and our fabrics are fantastic. This is not a job for the faint hearted, you need to be organised and be able to cope with attention to detail at all times. Every customer is different and every house is different which keeps it interesting. The rewards are great and are achievable from day 1

I like the fact that you control your own leads and therefore manage your own time. People are pleased to see you and usually place an order. It’s a real people job with a balance of fun and laughs, and getting the job done. There are a wide range of parts to the job from measuring and fitting, selling and customer service. Plumbs are always proactive in responding if you’ve got an idea which I like.

After 40 years of running my own hairdressing business and more than 3 years of retirement, I decided that I wanted a new challenge. I have always enjoyed working with the public and was considering what to do when a friend, who is a Consultant with Plumbs, suggested that this was something that I might really find challenging. I have always enjoyed working with fabrics and interior design, and there was an element of flexibility and organising a schedule to fit around other interests and so I thought why not!

After 2 weeks of intensive training it was obvious that this was not a walk in the park; the move into the great yonder was exciting and when problems arose the back-up from the Training Managers was outstanding. As a rookie it could have been easy to feel out of one’s depth in understanding the measures for a multitude of different types of furniture and curtains. Until I started with Plumbs I hadn’t really thought about how many different styles, sizes and qualities there were. It has been an education; I always thought that an inside back was something to do with rugby or football!!

Plumbs have proved to be a large family giving support from every single angle of the company. After 7 months, and many telephone conversations later, I feel I am now on top of the products and the paperwork, paperwork and more paperwork!

My advice is to go for it. The product range is fantastic, amazing fabrics with something to suit everyone’s taste. I have never felt that I was on my own. What a great back-up there has been from Plumbs Ltd.

In Yorkshire it takes an in-comer 25 years to be accepted into the community, I hope I can shake off the mantle of ‘rookie’ sooner than that.

It has certainly been a challenge but I have met some wonderful people and I am thoroughly enjoying it.
