So what does a Plumbs consultant actually do. It’s a mix of interior design, measuring, fitting, selling, offering advice and lots of good old fashioned customer service.
A typical day...
First job of the day is often to contact the customers in my area and arrange a convenient time to go to their home.
We always try to get to customers within a week of their first contacting Plumbs. It’s all about offering a good service and being reliable and trustworthy.
Then it’s out on the road complete with swatch books for new customers to see.
Often the day will include fitting orders too.
Customers are always pleased to see the consultant and often excited at the idea of transforming their home.
Some customers know exactly what they want, while others want my advice.
Often the customer will fall in love with one particular fabric or at least narrow it down to one or two.
With over 500 options, it’s a case of getting a feel for what a customer is looking for, their budget and also being aware of what else is in the room.
In this room, a plain floor and plain walls means you get away with almost any fabric.
This particular customer is going for the Burgundy colour on the furniture and Champagne curtains.
Should be a fabulous look, particularly with some contrasting cushions on the sofa.
Customers always love to stand back and take a look. The job of the consultant is to try and help her visualise what the finished result will be.
Many customers take the chance of doing a lounge update to change their curtains.
Again the consultant is there to advise on heading types and fabric choice.
The Plumbs consultant service includes free measuring and fitting. So, if the customer decides to go ahead with curtains, out come the tape measure and step ladders.
For loose covers, the consultant’s job often involves the detailed measurement of furniture. This forms a large part of the Plumbs training course.
To accurately measure a three piece suite involves taking 500 – 1,000 measurements.
Even experienced consultants usually take over an hour to carefully measure a piece of furniture.
Once measuring is complete it’s case of taking photographs of the furniture and writing out an order.
Measuring any piece of furniture requires attention to detail and concentration.
Once the covers are made and ready, it’s the consultant’s job to ring the customer again to arrange a convenient time to fit.
It’s all part of the service.
The fitting service also includes curtains.
This is a huge benefit to many customers; to have everything done for them by the Plumbs consultant.
The job of the Plumbs Home Consultant is hugely satisfying and financially rewarding. It is also hard work, and only for those who genuinely enjoy meeting people.
Most Plumbs consultants genuinely love the combination of helping people choose a new look, job satisfaction and the flexibility of running their own business.
