As a long established Preston family firm, we want to raise awareness and encourage other businesses to take on an apprentice this Guild year. The Guild is a great time to focus on young people in Preston and we are really enthusiastic about other businesses getting involved.
We currently have two apprentices and are looking to recruit more in 2012. It is essential for us to continue to develop young people with manufacturing skills and invest in the future of our business.
If we can end the year having helped 20 young people get apprenticeships with 20 Preston businesses, it will be a fantastic legacy to leave from the 2012 Guild year. And we can’t wait to see where they will be and what they will have achieved in 20 years time!
Preston Guild has its roots firmly based in promoting trade and commerce and is a tradition over 800 years old. The holding of the Guild, once every 20 years since 1542, was a major event and the cause of much celebration across the city.
In 2012 Preston Guild will be a major celebration of social and economic progress and a vehicle for the future vision of our city. The celebrations will enable us to showcase the best of Preston, Lancashire and the North West. One of the themes for the 2012 Guild is the Merchant Guild – Our reason for being is business. Preston Guild is a fantastic opportunity to share Preston’s achievements and possibilities with the world.
The Guild Apprenticeship Scheme will help not only strengthen our businesses but also help to create new jobs in the city. Preston Guild’s foundations are within the trade and industry of Preston. This initiative links directly with the history of the Guild, the future of our apprentices and the businesses they will work for, for the next 20 years.
