Plumbs is a family firm that has been based in Preston for over 60 years, and is one of the most significant employers in the area. We currently employ over 300 people, working in a variety of roles throughout the company, so whether your skills lie in Customer Services, Marketing, Manufacturing or Maintenance, you’re bound to find a place for you.

Factory

As well as our office based departments, we also operate our main factory from our Preston site. This is a hub of talented craftspeople, all working will skill, dedication and passion to help produce beautiful bespoke products for our customers. If you’re just leaving school or are newly interested in reupholstery, loose cover or curtain making, why not check out our apprenticeships?

For those with more expertise in their field, we’re always on the look out for talented craftspeople to join our various teams throughout the company. We know the enthusiasm, skills and experience it takes to become a fully qualified upholsterer, loose cover or curtain maker, and here at Plumbs, those are talents we want to help thrive.

There’s never a day the same in our factory, as every size, shape and style of furniture passes through our doors. Your skills will be pushed and developed, helping you advance your career as your go.

Our curtain department is equally busy, working with fabrics from some of the country’s most prestigious design houses. All our curtains are fully lined and mitred with blind hems, so you can be proud to produce high quality products with a beautiful finish.

  • Technical Designer Regional Manager - Norfolk (England)

    Technical Designer Regional Manager

    Location: Home Based

    Due to increasing demand, an outstanding opportunity has become available for a confident, well-organised and professional individual to join the UK’s market leaders for re-upholstery and loose furniture covers.

    Responsibilities of the Technical Designer Regional Manager:

    Backed by a team of support staff at their Head Office in Preston, you will be responsible for their Southern manufacturing region. The current structure consists of circa 60 independent enterprises that manufacture goods on our behalf. You will be required to build a strong working relationship with all parties and monitor, motivate, and develop their activities accordingly so to ensure production targets are achieved and high levels of customer satisfaction are delivered.

    In order to meet increasing consumer demand, you will be instrumental in enhancing our production network. You will be comfortable and confident visiting and presenting to prospective manufacturers, explaining our procedures, detailing what we require from them and assessing whether each prospect can offer an excellent service and a quality product.

    You will possess the ability to build a successful working relationship with the Sales Team and Regional Sales Managers, being a fountain of production knowledge, a proactive problem solver and an ambassador for effective communication between the two departments. 

     Reporting directly to the National Manager, you will be accountable for maintaining and developing the manufacturing base, quality of service and product as well as the overall regional performance. Some customer visits may also be required, so a positive customer facing character will be required.

    Requirements of the Technical Designer Regional Manager:

    Experience within the upholstery or soft furnishing industry would be a distinct advantage but not essential. More importantly, is the ability to inspire and influence those around you. You should possess good IT skills and be a confident presenter, coming from a background of field visits/sales and B2B interface. You must also possess a full, clean driving licence.

    We are looking to train selected individuals to become Templators, whose job it would be to make furniture templates for our expert team of loose cover makers to turn into beautiful furniture covers. Loose covers may not be an industry that you know a lot about, but we can change all of that. So long as you can take accurate measurements, you can record information and you are willing how to learn a methodical templating system, using the materials that we provide, we would love to hear from you.

    You would be required to visit each customer in their own home at a pre-booked date/time. When at the customer’s home, you would create the required furniture templates. You would then need to post the templates to us so that we can cut and sew them at one of our many manufacturing units across the UK. The covers would then be sent back to you for you to fit onto the customer’s furniture, again at a pre-booked date/time. Job done!

    What we provide:

    • We provide you with the training, enabling you to know the job inside
    • We provide a company vehicle
    • We provide you with all the tools and equipment needed for the role
    • We provide you with a phone.

    Requirements of the Furniture Tailors:

    • A full, clean UK driving licence.
    • The ability to drive up to 2 hours between customers, set within a geographical area.
    • Like working with your hands, with attention to detail.
    • Good customer service skills.

    No furniture templating experience is needed, as full training will be provided. However, those who hold upholstery, loose cover making, or tailoring experience will be at an advantage.
